Flora and Fauna of Anticosti Island
The flora of Anticosti is particularly rich in the northern center of the island on the shelf of the Patate and Vaureal rivers. This sector underwent an immense forest fire in 1955. Beaches, peat bogs, and meadows of Anticosti contain a good variety of herbs and plants, much to the pleasure of the whitetail deer. During the lush growth of the summer, deer devote all their energy to accumulate fat reserves, to nurse their young, and grow their antlers, which will develop until the end of August. Fox and deer have considerably thinner coats, deer wear their summer color. The irresistible "Bambies" bring a great sense of pleasure to those who have the privilege of witnessing their gracious beauty!
