Anticosti, rest area for the Snowy Owl
Anticosti Island is a large wildlife menagerie and open sky were land and marine mammals abound. More than 220 species of birds occupy the coast of Anticosti and its evergreen forest. The island is also a resting place for migratory birds such as the snowy owl, which stop there in the fall on their journey from the Canadian far north. In November 2008 there were at least ten snowy owls in the sectors of Port-Menier, Baie-Sainte-Claire and West Point. I had the opportunity to spend a few hours watching them on November 16, due to a foggy day when the plane couldn't fly on Anticosti... but it didn't seem to bother the snowy owl.
