After the death of Jolliet, the island passed through several hands. Fishermen and their families settled sporadically in English Bay, Baie Ellis, Anse aux Fraises and Fox Bay. In 1881, there were 359 men and 317 women on Anticosti. Here is Anse aux Fraises in 1901.
